The martial arts of Zen bring together the warrior spirit, the symbol of the Dharma protector, with the calm abiding of the monk in a progressive body-mind practice. We will develop focus, concentration, breath control, power, spontaneity and Zen actualization while improving fitness and learning practical, reality-based personal protection.
We will train with strength and flexibility exercises, slow and fast forms, practical grips, blocks and throws all in the service of letting go of the small self and learning to function in No Mind or Big Self.
Students will learn to cultivate effort, mindfulness, concentration and presence under challenging conditions, as well as, how to translate combat tactics and strategies into Dharma tactics for application against life conflicts.
Training Path:
• grounding in the body, the first foundation of mindfulness
• developing non-attached awareness
• cultivating effort to balance field awareness and concentration
• deepening concentration
Jeff Eisenberg is a master level instructor who holds a sixth degree black belt. He has been training in the martial arts for over thirty years, teaching for over twenty, and owned his own school for twelve. He teaches an eclectic mix of the locking and throwing arts of hapkido, jujitsu, and judo, as well as a mix of kicking and striking arts.
His teaching has two goals. One, to teach reality based material that can be effectively utilized in a real self protection situation, and two, to use the training as a vehicle for awakening and cultivating a Warrior-Protector spirit.
Jeff began his meditation practice under Noah Levine in New York, and currently is a student of Sensei Paul Genki Kahn at High Mountain Crystal Lake Zen Community.
